Gooseneck Kettles
Any manual brewing technique is a bit easier with a good kettle, but if you are making pour-overs, a gooseneck kettle is invaluable. They feature a long, thin spout that allows you to easily control water flow, which reduces the risk of splashing and will not agitate the coffee bed, which can lead to a clogged filter. There are two basic options for goosenecks:
- The cheapest way to do this is to get a stovetop kettle that generally behaves like a typical tea kettle with, well, a gooseneck.
- An electric kettle which stands on its own. I recommend this approach because it gives you more flexibility. I particularly like ones that allow you to set a temperature that they will heat to and hold that water at. This gives you more flexibility to target a certain brew temp and you can also use them for tea and other cooking applications. - Gooseneck kettle Recommendations: - 1. Coffee Gator Gooseneck - Simple, pretty stovetop model with a built in thermometer. - 2. Bonavita Variable Temperature Electric - Awesome combination of speed, the ability to hold temperature, and ease of use. If the variable temp one is not available, a simple one that will heat to boiling will work as well. - 3. Fellow Stagg EKG - Next-level design and function. Gorgeous.
